For the Girl Who Was Not Chosen
I grew up with a tiny voice in my head that would get really loud when I wasn't chosen. It echoed through my mind telling me that I wasn't good enough, that the only way to be good enough was to be the best choice.
I wasn't chosen for varsity, I wasn't chosen by the popular crowd, I wasn't chosen by the guy I liked, I wasn't chosen for the job or the title. Every time that I came up short, I questioned if I had any worth or purpose at all. Why could they not see me? My need to succeed, my need to be noticed, stopped ruling my life when I learned to see myself as God sees me.
Because I was so lost in my brokenness, I didn't believe God when I asked Him how He sees me and God spoke the word 'Chosen.' I asked, "What could I be chosen for?" He whispered, "Chosen to share My truth. Chosen to radiate My love. Chosen to lead My people. You are Chosen to Reign."
All of my desperate longings to be noticed shatter when I look to Him to declare my worth and not to the world, because being fully known and fully loved by a God so great that I can't humanly comprehend His vast love gives me eternal significance beyond any worldly success.
Because my purpose (and your purpose) is not to be the first choice but to know we are CHOSEN.
Insecurity has become an epidemic in our society. Nothing in your life will ever feel right until you feel right about yourself. We don’t come to believing this truth because we do everything right but because we know we have been made right with God through Jesus Christ. When you start to believe this truth and know you are chosen by God, there is going to be a battle over your life because the last thing the enemy wants is for you to walk confidently in your royal identity. If you are bold enough to open your Bible and learn the truth about who God says you are, you are liable to live your life full of purpose and potential. Then you’re on your way to accomplishing something great while empowering and encouraging others along the journey - and that would be a catastrophic nightmare to the kingdom of darkness.
The cure for all insecurity is to know who you are in Jesus Christ. You have to learn how to confront fear and move forward. You don’t have to feel confident to be confident. Our struggle with low self-esteem dissipates when we take our eyes off of ourselves and look to Jesus because His power is made perfect in our weakness. Christ did not overcome Heaven and Earth for you to wish you had her life or to waste your days in worry. If you know who you are in Christ you will begin to pray boldly and you can expect God to move mountains and to do big things in your life. James 5:16-18 tells us when righteous people pray, power is made available. You, beautiful, are full of power and potential beyond human comprehension.
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do.” - Marianne Williamson
If you're feeling purposeless or inadequate, wondering if you're good enough or noticeable enough: I just want to remind you that every fiber in your soul was woven together on purpose for a purpose. God breathed life into you with power and purpose. He chose you and created you before the foundation of the world for mighty Kingdom callings. He specifically assigned you to this moment in time within this generation because you possess something our world desperately needs.
Give yourself permission to turn off the voice of lies in your head. And listen to Him whisper this truth, "You have worth and capability and significance. You, My child, are chosen to reign. The world may not always see it, and you may not always believe it, but My Word is always true."
For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. Out of all the peoples on the face of the earth, the LORD has chosen you to be his treasured possession.
- Deuteronomy 14:2
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. - 1 Peter 2:9
